Cute tsundere, stuck in a boring show.

Mind you, I’ll continue to watch Hyouka but certainly not for the mystery aspect of the show. Nuts to that, just give me more Eru and Mayaka.

THIS GIRL IS MADE OF PURE MOE!

Ok so the show may be kinda meh, but man is Eru Chitanda just oozing with moe cuteness. Still helps that the production values are high quality we all expect from Kyoani.

Really Kyoani? This is your show for the year?

It’s not usual to be worked up for a show but when one of your favorite studios decides to makes only a single show a year, it tends to be a small event to look forward to. As you know, Kyoani is one of my favorite studios. I, like many was introduced to them with The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya but I’d became a sworn fan with Lucky Star and then a near worshiper of their work with both seasons of K-On.  Then something happened. I don’t know what to point the blame but if I had to guess, it was them getting gobs of money from them having hit after hit show but, their shows just aren’t as good as they use to be.

I don’t know if its them feeling the need the be LESS otaku oriented or that my attention has focus on the output of studio SHAFT. Last year, Kyoani premiered their show for the year, Nichijou. It was hard to get into. Many of the jokes were hit or miss. Eventually, I grew to like the show. The show BOMBED hard in Japan.I think it should have been half the length (13 or so instead of 26 plus the OAD).  Granted, if released here, I’d buy it (but I wouldn’t be ecstatic the way I patiently waited for EACH volume of Lucky Star and the first season of K-On! and of course, I have the first half of season two for K-On!! preordered. Still waiting for a rip of the K-On! movie though.

Which brings me to what I’m writing about now. Kyoani’s show of the year is called Hyouka. The premise right the first description of it didn’t really do anything to impress. Basically, it’s going to be a mystery show. From what I gather, there’s not going to be any super natural elements (which I guess is a good change of pace). The art is the usual gorgeous caliber I expect from the studio. Unlike Nichijou which was basically Lucky Star 2 in term of art style, this looks like Haruhi with K-On’s character designer. I’ll continue to watch it because even the story is ok, THE PRODUCTION VALUES ARE CRAZY AWESOME with the feeling that you’re right there in the school, just as K-On! and Haruhi did. Remember that it took nearly half way to enjoy Nichijou, so who knows, maybe I get to enjoying it more than I can now. It’ll be 21 eps plus an  OAD.

Oh and the main girl Chitanda is moe as hell!
